We believe that God has a heart for the city and we should too. In fact, though the Bible begins with a Garden, it ends with a City. Local Outreach is demonstrating the transforming love of God by caring for the physical, economical and spiritual needs of our community. We consider it a privilege to care for Artesia, Cerritos and the wider areas of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
Local Outreach initiatives are begun and sustained by faithful volunteers and the creative efforts of the New Life congregation and our community partners. Partnerships between neighbors, churches, business and city government are a key component of our vision for helping to bring restoration and hope to this community that we love.
Our goal is to “deliver love” to the children of prisoners each Christmas. Starting in November, you can pick up Angel tags after the Worship Service or make special arrangements by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. Each tag shares the gift-wishes of a particular child. Click here to learn more.
Change for Christ Offerings
Every 5th Sunday of the year, you have the opportunity to pray and give as we collect a special offering (spare change, cash and checks) for our global and local outreach initiatives.
Community Christmas Basket Distribution
The Artesia–Cerritos Community Christmas Program supplies food and toys to families in need at Christmas time. It is a partnership between the community and area churches that has been developed over the years. If you would like to assist the days of distribution please email email@example.com.
A key initiative at New Life is our weekly food distribution. Every Saturday volunteers serve between 150-200 individuals. The dignity and respect we aim to provide our neighbors is what we believe will set the church apart from other food distribution outlets. For more information, click here.
Imago Dei Church
We have formed a partnership with a local, new church in Downey called Imago Dei. Along with building a relationship with their Lead Pastor Daniel Jansson, we have been fortunate enough to financially bless and occasionally provide meeting rooms for them. Their mission is to behold Jesus, becoming like him and display his glory through all of us in all of life and to all of the world. For more information on this church plant, visit their website: http://imagodei.church/home
Members in Mission
Members-in-Missions (MiM) is all about furthering New Life’s rich legacy as a “sending” church. We develop and send financial support, prayer and encouragement to our church members and some long-time friends who go out vocationally to serve on the mission field – some locally, some globally. Click here for more information.
Team Artesia links volunteers in the community with the departments of the City’s government that can use their assistance. The purpose of the “Team Artesia” volunteer program is to expand and enhance the delivery of quality services by promoting citizen participation within City government. The program focuses its residents to contribute their valuable time and talents on a volunteer basis. Team Artesia usually meets at 3pm on the first Wednesday of the month at Artesia City Hall. Thanksgiving Food Drive
In order to supplement what we receive from the Long Beach Food Bank for our own food distribution on Saturday mornings, we hold a special annual Thanksgiving food drive. You may bring the bag of food to New Life on a Sunday morning worship service or to the church office by Wednesday, November 16th. The bag should include the following specific items: canned applesauce, corn or green beans, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, turkey gravy, yams; box or bag of instant mashed potatoes, stuffing, jello or pudding.
The Shalom Project
Instead of seeking our own individual, denominationally divided ways of doing ministry, New Life Community Church has played a pivotal role in forming a networking movement of local Christian churches and ministries united to bless Artesia, Cerritos and beyond. To fulfill their mission, The Shalom Project offers community gatherings and services in partnership with our city government, businesses, schools and churches.
